UNICAC National roundtable at the IET TSUC

June 19, 2021, in the framework of the UNICAC project and with the initiative of the National Erasmus+ Office in Tajikistan, Khorog State University and the Institute of Economy and Trade of TSUC has organized a national roundtable. A national roundtable brought together field experts from Higher Education Reform Experts, Czarina Nuriddinova, Erasmus+ coordinator in Tajikistan, Nurova Sanavbar, Moscow State University branch in Dushanbe, Olga Sayfulloeva, Khorog State University and teaching and administrative staff of the IET TSUC. In the national roundtable, key speakers brought the most relevant topics of higher education internationalisation, including the importance of internationalisation strategy, international cooperation in higher education, higher education trends, etc.

The director of the IET TSUC Hoshimzoda Homid Hasan in a welcome speech gave an overall picture of internationalisation processes, how we are tackling the issues of internationalisation during the COVID-19 pandemic and what is our vision in terms of Internationalisation. It is therefore to mention, that Hoshimzoda Homid Hasan is involved in developing the new Strategic Plan for Internationalisation of the IET TSUC in the framework of the UNICAC. He has mentioned, that The strategic development of IET TSUC is based on the comprehensive internationalisation of the university, that is, we strive for the continuous development of the institute, taking into account the improvement of teaching, learning, research activities, and modernization of infrastructure, through international projects and our international network, which is mainly developed in the Erasmus+ offered opportunities.

Using the opportunity of being Khorog State University and the Institute of Economy and Trade of TSUC in the same room NEO Tajikstan has decided to follow up with UNICAC implementation. Ms. Czarina Nuriddinova has opened a meeting, shared her expressions, and some insights from this morning’s monitoring of the UNICAC project, which generally had a positive assessment. The main part of her presentation was dedicated to the new ERASMUS+ 2021-2027, and what opportunities it has for HEIs.
The Higher Education Reform Experts Nurova Sanavbar and Olga Sayfulloeva continued with the interesting topics on the Internationalisation of the curriculum, business engagement in designing study programs, microcredits in higher education, and entrepreneurial education. The relevant topics raised many questions in the room and participants were proactively discussing them. In the break partnership opportunities and joint projects between Khorog State University, Institute of Economy and Trade of TSUC and Moscow State University branch in Dushanbe were discussed.

The second session of the day started with the presentation of the UNICAC results, plans, and upcoming events. The institutional UNICAC coordinator Saidqosim Mukhtorov shared the current state of developing the Strategic Plan for Internationalisation in the framework of the UNICAC, which further helped to gather new ideas, recommendations and suggestions to be included in the strategic document. Then Olga Sayfulloeva from Khorog State University shared her own experience of implementation of the UNICAC project, lessons learnt and how it helping to internationalise teaching, learning and research in her home university.

At the end of the day, a roundtable with experts, Erasmus coordinators and students of the IET TSUC was organized. Students demonstrated their informedness of the UNICAC activities and Erasmus+ programme opportunities. The interested in UNICAC virtual mobility students were proactively asking questions and sharing own thought regarding studying abroad and experience the international culture.

Institute of Economy and Trade of the Tajik State University of Commerce within the framework of the “Higher Education Development Project” of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan, funded by the World Bank, is implementing the grant project “Strategic directions for improving the quality of education and competitiveness of HEIs”. As part of the project, international scientific and practical online conference “Strategic directions for improving the competitiveness of HEIs: European experience and issues of its application” will be held from September 3-4th, 2020.

The purpose of the online conference: to study problems and develop recommendations for improving the quality of education and competitiveness of HEIs of the economic profile, taking into account the principles of the Bologna process.

The conference is held in the following sections:

  1. Student-centred educational standards: the European experience and issues of application in the Republic of Tajikistan;
  2. Improving teaching methods and strategic directions for improving the competitiveness of universities in the context of globalization: challenges and trends;
  3. Digitalization of education: opportunities and risks.

The key topics of the conference are:

  • Problems of improving the quality of education in modern conditions;
  • Competence-based approach in the organization of the educational process: national and international experience;
  • Issues of competence formation and learning outcomes in a State Educational Standards for economic specialities;
  • Evaluation of the effectiveness of study programs: criteria and indicators;
  • The structural and logical approach to the preparation and implementation of curricula of specialities and syllabuses/modules of disciplines;
  • Internationalization of academic activities: problems, benefits and prospects;

Project description: The Institute of Economy and Trade of TSUC in Khujand (IET TSUC) has approved a project with the University of Cantabria, Spain on international credit mobility. The inter-institutional agreement for 2019-2021 between University of Cantabria and the Institute of Economy and Trade of TSUC in Khujand was signed. Under international credit mobility, an HEI in a Partner Country can send its students, doctoral candidates or staff to a partner HEI in a Programme Country, and vice versa. Students or doctoral candidates are able to study abroad for a limited period of 3 to 5 months for which credits are obtained. After the mobility phase, the students return to their sending institution to complete their studies. Similarly, staff can spend a teaching and/or training period abroad for up to 2 months. According to this agreement IET TSUC is HEI from Partner Country and the University of Cantabria is HEI from Programme Country.

University partners travelled to Tashkent to reinforce their capacities in International Cooperation Agreements, Networks and Funding Opportunities 

UNICAC partners met in the Institute of Economy and Trade of Tajik State University in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) to start with the cycle of training foreseen in the UNICAC project, and whose objective is the reinforcement of capacities of the IROs staff.  This training took place from 16th to 20th September 2019.

In that sense, this first training was coordinated by LAUREA experts, Arja Majakulma and Minttu Rati, and experts from Uzbek, Tajik and Chinese partner Universities could learn and participate of the contents treated.

All participating institutions presented their own institutions in order to better know their internal structure and organisation. Some of the contents treated during the training days were how to establish the objectives of Internationalisation in Higher Education and case example un Laurea University; they also tackled the topic on how to build partnerships and networks. It was a highly collaborative training, as partner presented some interesting projects to the audience in order to generate synergies between them.

UNICAC partners worked on Organisation and Management of International Relation Offices 

Between the 18th and 22nd November 2019, took place in the National University of Uzbekistan, in Tashkent, the training module about the Organisation and Management of International Relation Offices.

This training was conducted by Professor Alicia Centrone, from the University of Torino and UNICAC partners from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and China could benefit of the different sessions of the training.

Some of the contents learnt during these working days were the objectives of internationalisation in Higher Education, where issues such as theory and practice of the IROs’ organisations, how to build partnerships and networks, or some innovative projects in Uzbekistan as case study.

All theses sessions were carried out in a collaborative way thanks to the organisation of round tables and working groups.

Xi’an hosted the UNICAC training about Academic teaching and research cooperation related tools, methodologies and best practices 

From 16th to 20th December 2019, the University Cooperation Framework for Knowledge Transfer in Central Asia and China (UNICAC) held the third training module in the School of Mechanical Engineering, North-Western Polytechnical University (NPU). Participants included the University of Seville (US), the Tashkent University of Information Technologies (TUIT), the National University of Uzbekistan (NUUz), the Khorog State University (KhoGU), Institute of Economy and Trade of Tajik state University (IET TSUC), the Xinjiang University (XJU), the Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU), and the Northwest A & F University (NWAFU). Professor Shuxia Wan, the project manager from NU, hosted the training module. Inmaculada Vivas and Miguel Angel Adame from the University of Seville coordinated the training.

During the five days of the training, all universities shared their approaches about the quality teaching. They presented the good practices and policies like joint international degrees and exchange students. One of the experts from US, introduced the good strategies and practical cases in his University like flexible length of schooling, online classes and full credit system. After that, all the members discussed the question about how to improve the quality of teaching and learning. Also, they discussed the academic university rankings.

It was a very enrichening experience where all partners had the opportunity of widening their knowledge!

2020 is an opportunity to continue the path of learning and reinforcing of capacities amongst all UNICAC partners. We wish you all a very peaceful and fruitful 2020!

UNICAC: First training module on “International Cooperation Agreements, Networks and Funding Opportunities” at IET TSUC, KHUJAND

New academic year has started with signing of 6 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Laurea University (Finland), National Polytechnic University (Xian, China), Agrarian and Forestry University (Yanling, China), Khorog State University, Uzbekistan National University and Tashkent University of Information Technologies. During the meeting of the above mentioned universities, which are members of the consortium of “UNiversity Cooperation Framework For Knowledge Transfer In Central Asia And China (UNICAC) ” Erasmus +, it was possible to conclude these cooperation agreements with IET TSUC.
The project is aimed at enhancing the process of internationalization of higher education and continuous cooperation of universities in Central Asia with China. One of the key components of the project is to improve professional skills of staff of International Relations Department with the aim of conducting series of trainings by the European partners.
The first training module was prepared by the Laurea University of Finland and was held on September 16-20, 2019 at IET TSUC. As a host, IET TSUC assisted in organizing trainings and organizing high-profile cultural events at a high level. This meeting is the first event in the Central Asian region and China and is the second event of the project after the kick-off meeting of the project at the University of Seville in Spain.

The first day of the training began with the opening speech of the Director of IET TSUC, PhD, professor Olimi Rauf Latifzoda. Professor Rauf Latifzoda welcomed all the participants and expressed readiness of the university for any cooperation. It was noted that the problem of internationalization of higher education is one of the main parts of the strategic development plan of the Institute.
Deputy Director for International Relations, Doctor of Economics, Professor Inomjon Aminov spoke about international relations of the Institute and international projects. Coordinator of the Erasmus Program in Tajikistan Zarina Nuridinova, in her speech on the content and logic of the project “UNiversity Cooperation Framework For Knowledge Transfer In Central Asia And China (UNICAC)”, noted that the results of the project are important and could be a great opportunity to foster internationalization in all partner universities.
On the first day, the participants introduced their home universities and provided a brief overview of international activities, major projects implemented and strategic directions for the development of cooperation.
The second day of the training was followed by a discussion on the topic “Internationalization tasks in higher education”.
On third day of the establishment of partnerships and networks, negotiations were held to familiarize with preparation, management and monitoring of the implementation of university contracts with foreign partners.
The fourth day of the event the head of the department of international relations, coordinator of the UNICAC project at IET TSUC Saidqosim Mukhtorov have presented funding opportunities in Tajikistan in the example of the project ” Higher Education Development Project ” of the the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan, funded by World Bank Group. During the day, Minttu Raty conducted a workshop on project management and financial reporting.
All participants were awarded certificates and as a final stage of the Consortium of UNICAC Memorandum between the Institute of Economy and Trade of Tajik State University of Commerce and partner universities was signed: Laurea University (Finland), National Polytechnic University (Xi’an, China), Agrarian University and Forestry (Yanling, China), Khorog State University, Uzbekistan National University, and Tashkent University of Information Technology.

UNICAC: an opportunity for a mutual European – Asiatic learning! 

UNICAC project has been launched in January 2019 and will be running till 2022. It is founded under the Erasmus+ programme, and matches the needs of 7 Asian Universities – in Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and China – to improve Cross- regional and international cooperation of High Education Institutions and the willing of three European Universities – in Finland, Italy and Spain – to learn from the way of working of the Asian colleagues.

The objective is to contribute to develop international cooperation; to enhance strategic, human and infrastructural capacities for the management of International Relations in Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and China; and to develop a multi-regional network as a platform for the exploitation of synergies in International Relations.

Kick-of meeting in Seville

Last 25th to 26st February 2019, UNICAC partners personally met at the University of Seville facilities. During this time, the representatives of all partner Universities had the opportunity to share different points of view and expectations about this interesting project.

The first day, all partners presented their institutions in order to know each other, the profile of the universities, what they can offer and what they want to achieve being part of the project. The second day of the meeting, partners discussed about the activities to be developed and the working methodologies. Moreover, partners also had the opportunity to discover the ancient city centre of Seville, as well as, to taste the more typical food of Spain and the well-known tapas.

Synergies start! 

Right after the Kick- off meeting, partners carried out a technical visit at the University of Seville (in Spain) with the objective of having a deeper knowledge of the International Relation Offices management, and directly learn from their European counterparts.

The visit to the International Centre of the University of Seville allowed the participants to meet the staff and ask them about their daily tasks, making a comparison of their structures of international relations and the University of Seville and learning about best practices and how to apply them in their International Centres.

Сongratulations on the victory, courageous athletes!

From October 23 to November 15 of this year, student’s sport contest was held between higher education institutions of Sughd region.

There were 70 students of the IET TSUC who participated in the contest. A 2-year student of specialty 400102 Saifiev Bakhtiyor the first place on wrestling. Including, 1-year student  250103A Akhmedov Tuychibeg won the first place in athletics. Kholov Rakhmat won the 1st place on qualification by weight.

In total, 3 students of the university received the first place in the regional sports district and took part in the republican ballot.

In the republican sports competition, held in Dushanbe on November 5th till November 25, Sayfiev Bakhtiyor’s 2-year student specialty 400102 was awarded with the 2nd place.

Information Day of ERASMUS + at IET TSUC

IET TSUC on the 10th of October, 2018 in Khujand, Tajikistan at IET TSUC has organized Information Day of ERASMUS+ and presented International Credit Mobility (ICM) project with University of Pisa. The event was organized by International Relations Office (IRO) of IET TSUC. All Economics and Business school faculty members and students has participated in the Information Day.

Firstly, deputy-director on International Affairs, professor Inomjon Aminov has opened the seminar and mentioned IRO achievements for recent years. Also he emphasized the importance of International programs like ERASMUS+, of learning foreign languages and international experience. In a very short time IRO has achieved significant results. Just within the framework of ERASMUS+ three approved projects: Two ICM projects with University of Pisa, Italy and University of Cantabria, Spain. And Capacity Building in Higher Education interregional project “UNiversity Cooperation Framework for Knowledge Transfer in Central Asia and China (UNICAC)” between Europe, Central Asia and China HEIs. IET TSUC is in consortium among universities from Spain, Italy, Finland, Uzbekistan and China, totally 11 participants. This is a huge project for 3 years, with great potential of impact, higher education improvement and internationalization, within budget of over 1million euros.

Then IR officer Dr. Ayubjon Yusupov has told past success stories of ERASMUS MUNDUS projects at IET TSUC. Importantly he shared with his own rich experience to inspire youth to be more socially active, to study well, participate in different contests and international projects.

 The head of IRO Mr. Saidqosim Mukhtorov announced of ERASMUS+ approved projects on ICM, and presented ICM with University of Pisa. Once again he mentioned the importance of international programs and how international experience could add a great value in the making up personality and professional. He continued about ICM with University of Pisa and explained all the procedure of application, all required documents and important dates. Also department of Foreign Languages was appointed responsible for CEFR certification of applicants. Last but not least Ms. Oqilova Muhibakhon presented to the audience how to write good motivation letter and CV. Additionally guidelines for how to write good motivation letter and CV were provided.
